Shinsegae Gangnam-Men's Luxury

The sixth floor of Shinsegae Gangnam is where luxury menswear lives. The existing hall was designed by Jeffrey Hutchison & Associates — the firm behind Barneys and Saks Fifth Avenue — drawing on Cubism and De Stijl into something both foreign and long-loved.

Our task was to carry that territory into the new wing. Rather than repeating the original, we reinterpreted it, designing the full run of common areas with one intention and one flow. The bridge joining old wing to new was the harder question: we made it a room of its own rather than a passage between two others.

Finding beauty in an existing heritage, then asking what beauty should come next — that work is the same whether the subject is a building or a garment.

This one carried a second meaning for us. Rooms for houses of this order have almost always been drawn by designers from abroad.
