The Story

A new room inside The Plaza Hotel in central Seoul, renewing a space that had been running since 2007.

The Plaza took its present form through the hand of the Italian designer Guido Ciompi. In the same spirit, we wanted this room inside it to hold something organic and set apart from ordinary hours, right in the middle of a busy city.

People live through a forest called a city, each along their own route. We hoped that partway through, they might sit down with the people they came with, share a conversation and a meal, and find some pleasure inside the journey.

Light held in trees, deep in a dark forest. And at the end of a day’s walking, a room and the people in it made clearer by the dark around them. To draw out what is felt far inside nature, we worked on natural lines and on a deep tone carried through the whole space.

We made this with affection and respect for what is pure in nature, and we hope the time spent here is worth more for it.
